Comments about UNIVERSAL MUSIC AUSTRALIA Soundtrack - A Few Best Men: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack & Remixes:

The concept behind this OST sounds absurd and almost insulting to hard core ONJ fans but the result is surprisingly fun and curiously catchy.

Yes, some of the tracks and "reinventions" are borderline cheesy and the euro-disco arrangement is trashy but that's the whole point of the OST.

Olivia sounds relaxed, powerful and not without a little self-irony.

      Worth a listen for sure

Comments about UNIVERSAL MUSIC AUSTRALIA Soundtrack - A Few Best Men: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack & Remixes:

Olivia has definately still got _it_, this album is packed with dance-floor fillers. She takes hits from the 60,s and 70,s and turns them on their head, giving them an edge, techno and trance style. Among the best are Daydream believer ,which has a sound to rival what you hear on radio today. Wait till you hear what Olivia does with Devil Gate Drive, the Suzi Quatro hit.a great stomping dance track with vocals reminiscent of her Totally Hot album . Mickey is another standout track that will have you turning up the volme. She has top producers and Dj,s Chew Fu,Archie, and Roulette on board making this album appeal to club goers and dance music fans. Yes the Goddess has been auto-tuned and barely recognisable as lovely Livvy on one or two tracks, but this is a dance album after all,and Livvy is just as contemporary as the best of them and current. Olivia continues to please ,more, more, more,we say!... Pssst, there is another ONJ dance album in the works for release later this year.Go girl .

Comments about UNIVERSAL MUSIC AUSTRALIA Soundtrack - A Few Best Men: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack & Remixes:

This is a very cool side project for ONJ. She lends her vocals to some very fun remix versions of songs originally made popular by The Cowsills, The Partridge Family, Suzi Quatro and The Archies to name a few. Throw in a brand new song written for Olivia by John Farrar and you've fine new release. Not every track works (such as The Pushbike Song), but the hits more than make up for the misses.

Very catchy carrier song "Weightless" penned by Olivia's longtime producer-writer-friend John Farrar. Suprisingly very current and young remixes of old 1960-1970s hits. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Comments about UNIVERSAL MUSIC AUSTRALIA Soundtrack - A Few Best Men: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack & Remixes:

ONJ continues to be quite prolific with her releases, and while this one doesn't always hit the mark, when it does it's very rewarding. She's once again has teamed with former producer John Farrar on a new track he has written for her, "Weightless". It's a catchy dance/pop number that will remind many of some of her 80's pop. There are also great versions of "Sugar, Sugar", "I Think I Love You", "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" and "The Rain, The Park and Other Things". Tracks such as "The Pushbike Song", "Georgy Girl" and "The Love Boat" make hardly any use of her vocals in the dance mixes and make one wish that they could have heard what was originally recorded in the studio. Despite the missteps, this is still a great collection to add to any fan's collection.

Weightless is great (new song) I love it - It's the Olivia we know, but some of the other songs are to pump-up for me and in my eyes "very little" Olivia... But I'm so looking forward to see the movie, then I think the songs will fall into place ..... I hope..

Comments about UNIVERSAL MUSIC AUSTRALIA Soundtrack - A Few Best Men: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack & Remixes:

This soundtrack used as a vehicle to promote Olivia Newton-John's new movie " A Few Best Men," offers many surprises. It's a bit of a jolt following Livvy's musical journey in the last half of this decade commuting from the New Age sensibilities of "Grace And Gratitude Renewed" to Dance Music remixed in this project in the vein of Lady Gaga! I never ever imagined Olivia to be linked with audotune and current remixing trends but the experiment makes for a most interesting listening experience. The highlight for Oliviaphiles such as myself was ONJ being reunited with her longtime producer and songwriter, John Farrar. Farrar was responsible for most of Livvy's biggest hits including "Have You Never Been Mellow," "Hopelessly Devoted To You," and "You're The One That I Want." John Farrar and his son, Max contributed the track, "Weightless," which opens the collection. This song is a fun, bouncy, pop ditty that harkens back to the sound of her pop heyday between 1978-1982, when she was the Neutron-Bomb! (There is also a remix of this song at the end of the CD, which although providing more of a backbeat, does not offer much to the original). The rest of the contributions on this varied album are remakes that are remixed and remodeled to appeal to dance floor enthusiasts of the new generation. "Daydream Believer," is a standout track that delivers passionate vocals and undeniable energy that could clearly find it's way into the clubs, if marketed properly. One idea would be for ONJ to be involved with a tribute to the current untimely death of late Davey Jones from the Monkees. I'm not certain whether the film and CD of this project will truly commute to find it's way to the American Market. If it does, there is a strong chance that Livvy's music will be rightfully heard once again on the radio and in the clubs. The first single released is a cover of Toni Basil's Mickey, that has sexy and sensual vocals from Olivia that are reminiscient of her "Soul Kiss" phase. (Incidentally the original song was Number 1 on the charts the same week that ONJ's "Heart Attack" peaked at #3! in 1983) Besides "Weightless", "Sugar Sugar" is the closest sounding to the Olivia Newton-John that we all know and originally fell in love with. "The Rain, The Park, And Other Things" also has a clearly definable pure ONJ vocal. This song is the closest to an R&B slow jam that you will ever find in the ONJ catalogue. "Devil Gate Drive" finds Livvy channeling and expanding upon her "Gimmie Some Lovin'" personna from the Totally Hot Era. "I Think I Love You" serves a fun and fierce reworking of the David Cassidy classic. "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" shows a more raw vocal delivery reminiscent of Bonnie Tyler that touches upon longing and angst that she renders believable in her interpretation! This is quite impressive, because the meaning of this song penned by Meatloaf is completely different from her self actualized personna as a 63 year old breast cancer thriver, humanitarian, and songstress! Then, there are tracks where Olivia's vocals are unfortunately wasted in the mix! "The Love Boat" and "Georgy Girl" both sound absolutely different from the original tunes. Olivia's vocals are drowned out and it sounds like she is 2,000 feet under water! These tracks serve simply as ambient dance mixes in which the music is turned up to the max and Olivia's vocal contributions play a mere second or should i say third fiddle! It seems completely unnecessary that she is even present on these tracks at all! "The Pushbike Song" deserves the unique distinction of being the absolute worst sounding Olivia Newton-John track i've ever heard! This selection is audotuned to the point of ONJ being completely unrecognizable! It sounds most similar to something Rhianna would turn out in this day and age. "Brand New Key" shows Livvy duetting with an Audotuned Version of Livvy! It's an interesting idea, however, it makes me long for a stripped down version of ONJ singing this, without the studio gimmicks. As much as i am open to the experimentation of these new sounds, i would have preferred these tunes to be done unplugged. I'm hoping for simplistic versions of these classics when ONJ returns to the concert stage! In addition to ONJ songs, the project does feature tracks from The Wedding Band, which although sounding pleasant enough, i tend to skip over because this music is not what originally attracted me to this project! In all, any new project that Olivia Newton-John commits to, i wholeheartedly support! I appreciate her openness to experiment and transcend genres in her forty year career! This unique experiment is a fun, engaging and delicious addition to the diverse ONJ catalog. Die hard Olivia Newton-John enthusiasts will embrace the project, but most likely will have varying opinions regarding the diversity of the tracks represented. The soundtrack also has a place for the new generation as well. It is well worth a listen!

The Soundtrack for "A Few Best Men" ROCKS! I haven't had the opportunity to see the movie yet here in the States, but love the accompanying soundtrack. Olivia's dance mix renditions of music standards are amazing, suitable for any dance club. She SHINES on these tracks. I've virtually worn out the CD in my car already, and am looking to purchase additional copies for friends. Can't wait to see the movie. ROCK ON OLIVIA.
