Blu-ray Region Info

What is Blu-ray?

Blu-ray represents the next-generation optical disc format which uses advanced video and audio codecs to offer consumers an unprecedented HD experience.

Developed and supported by about 200 of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers, the format enables recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD). The format also has support from all Hollywood studios and countless smaller studios with many announcing that they will increase the release of feature films on Blu-ray.

Blu-ray Region Information:

Blu-ray Discs may be encoded with a region code, intended to restrict the area of the world in which they can be played, similar in principle to the DVD Region Info, although the used geographical regions differ.

Region A:
East Asia (except Mainland China and Mongolia), Southeast Asia, North America, South America and their dependencies.

Region B:
Africa, Southwest Asia, Europe (except Russia and Kazakhstan), Oceania and their dependencies.

Region C:
Central Asia, East Asia (Mainland China and Mongolia only), South Asia, central Eurasia and their dependencies. Blu-ray Region Info

NOTE:

  1. Not all Blu-ray discs are region encoded. Some releases can be viewed on any player. These are usually known as region-free (or "region 0").
  2. Packaging may vary within a region though the pressing of the disc may be identical.
  3. Keep in mind that in addition to the region code your Blu-ray player is capable of playing, your television needs to be able to handle the colour system standards. Blu-ray discs are designed to be displayed on either PAL (Europe, Australia) or NTSC (US, Japan) televisions. Most newer televisions can handle both PAL and NTSC colour systems. Please ensure your television can handle the format of the Blu-ray before purchasing.
