The Holy Wars of the 12th century gave Cecil B. DeMille fine fodder for his brand of historical spectacle with this sweeping effort. Entreated to reclaim Jerusalem from the conquering Saracens, Richard the Lion-Hearted (Henry Wilcoxon) finances his campaign via a lovely French princess (Loretta Young), but underestimates the canny opposition of Saladin (Ian Keith).
