Product Notes

Automatic Children grew out of Adam Lippman's solo project. The former bassist for Supple ("Hurricane Streets" and "Clubland" soundtracks, CMJ charts for 16 weeks), Adam recruited Crista G. via the internet way back in 2003. It wasn't until 2006 that they reconnected and sat down to learn songs from Lippman's 2 CD's: "Lo-Fi, Hi-Maintenance" and "Fool's Gold". Crista recruited drummer and colleague Bruce Baek. Both were teaching film at the time. "Adam Lippman and the Professors" made their debut on a very hot August night at R&R in 2006. After a couple of personnel changes, Teddy Williams, bassist for "Anja", joined the group in late fall 2006. Along the way, they played Galapagos, the Knitting Factory, the Delancey and the Baggot Inn, among others. The quartet, having that right chemistry, began finding a groove of it's own and began introducing songs written by Crista G. and then the group as a whole. Currently the group is propelled by the singing and songwriting of guitarists Adam and Crista and bassist Teddy. The groups sound and songwriting has received diverse comparisons from the Rolling Stones to the Jesus and Mary Chain. A crowd favorite has been their cover of the Pixies "Gigantic". Brought to New York by way of California, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Korea, Japan, New Jersey, Colorado, North Carolina and countless appearances in different bands in each of those locations, the members of Automatic Children were proud to have their first official show at Southpaw in Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York on September 20th. It was the CD release party for their first EP, "It's not me, It's you." From THE DELI ONLINE BLOG: "Automatic Children's music is playful and aggressive, but not cold as you might expect from a band with a name like that. Their songs are rooted in traditional songwriting, with recurring references to pop and rock'n'roll, but the sound is gritty and distorted, reminding the unpolished tunes of Jesus and Mary Chain and The Pixies (alternating male/female vocals and a cover of Gigantic also tie this quartet to the Boston legends)."
