Product Notes

Born on a Texan farm to hippies (who later converted to Christianity and moved to the suburbs) China Curtiss displayed an uncanny knack for melody at an early age. At 18 months, she began whistling before she could speak in full sentences, and by the time she was 7, she was writing her own piano compositions. After a two-year stint at Vanderbilt\'s Blair School of Music, China ventured out on her own, traveling the world with Youth With A Mission. She finally landed in Denver, CO in 2000, and began teaching music and theater. China had been secretly writing songs ever since she was a little girl (sometimes hiding lyrics in her underwear drawer), and finally in 2002, with the encouragement and production aid of friend, Isaac Slade, began working on her debut album, Gamma Gray. It was also in 2002 that she met her soulmate and musical accomplice, Seth Kent and in 2004, China and Seth were married. Six weeks after their wedding, China and Seth Kent traveled to England joining their long-time friend, Nathan Johnson to assist in the composition and recording for the film, BRICK. China\'s piano work can be heard throughout the score, and she wrote or co-wrote many cues for the movie. In 2005 she and Seth moved to Boston to join Nathan and his band The Cinematic Underground for a grassroots promotion and national tour of the stage show Annasthesia. While in Boston working with The Cinematic Underground, China landed a composition gig with director Mark Woollen for his roller-derby documentary, Jam, now aired on The Sundance Channel. Currently, China is writing and performing with her band, Alright Alright. She lives in Denver with Seth and their son, Fender.
