Product Notes

I came to play waltzes on the harp almost quite by accident. I'd been asked to play during the break of a Contra Dance Benefit and as I played 'The Castle of Dromore' an old Irish lullaby, I noticed couples waltzing to it. The Harp Waltz was born! I began to play for English Country Dances in the Philadelphia area in 1991, and formed a trio called 'Sutton Who?' which included virtuoso recorder player John Burkhalter III with whom I collaborated on this CD. I have played Harp Waltzes at many dance festivals on the East Coast and made this recording in the summer of 2001 intending that it be used for actual dancing and for listening. I would come home and dance to my own playing in the living room, just to be sure of the tempo and feel of each one. Although the whole work is in one meter (3/4) there is a lot variety in the selections. 12 are harp solos and 6 are with John Burkhalter's excellent recorder playing. The CD was originally released in October of 2001, and with the many changes in the world as we knew it, and too many more on a personal front, I never really publicized the project. Hopefuly, now, there will be an opportunity for people to be waltzing in their OWN living rooms.
